At Nordstjernen, there are around 45 children aged 0-18 years with various forms of disabilities and support needs. Many of the children find it difficult to participate in outings to places like zoos, where sounds, large crowds, and unfamiliar settings can be overwhelming.

Therefore, the solution is both optimal and meaningful: The zoo comes to the children. With support from Fonden Sol og Strand, it will be possible to have monthly visits from Hygge Dyrehaven from Ramme southwest of Lemvig.

– We are incredibly happy that we can now offer a regular monthly visit, as the interaction with animals is something special. We work every day to create safe environments for some of the most vulnerable children – and with this donation, there will be room for even more smiles and star moments, says educator at Nordstjernen, Helle Lindgren.

Nordstjernen has previously had visits from Hygge Dyrehaven – with great success.

– Animals create calm, joy, and presence, and we can clearly see how much it means to the children. They relax and smile when they are with the animals, says Helle Lindgren.

The children get the opportunity to get up close to horses, rabbits, alpacas, sheep, goats, and guinea pigs. A special advantage of having the animals come to Nordstjernen is that even very sensitive children can participate – for example, by having an animal like a sheep in the room, where sensory stimuli are limited.

– Our experience is that when Hygge Dyrehaven comes to visit, everyone can participate, regardless of their level of ability, says Helle Lindgren.
