The Association For Equal Conditions was founded in 2017 by three mothers of children with special needs, who shared a feeling of helplessness in obtaining the right support for their children.

This was the starting point for the association, whose purpose is to support and advise parents with a sick or disabled child and thereby provide a helping hand to families.

– Our advisory service is the backbone of our association and is by far the most requested service, but paradoxically, it has proven difficult to obtain support for this very activity. Therefore, this donation from Fonden Sol og Strand is of utmost importance for the possibility of continuing to offer advice, says the association's co-founder and secretariat leader, Pernille Baungaard.

Three times a week, members can receive advice and guidance from professionals in a closed Facebook group, which currently has around 600 members.

– Through our online advisory service, parents gain access to expert advice on, among other things, legal issues and assistance under the Social Services Act. This can include aids, lost earnings, respite care, and other compensatory benefits. They can also receive support and advice on issues such as sibling dynamics and cooperation with authorities, says Pernille Baungaard.

A lifeline for many parents

Since 2019, For Equal Conditions has had a living conditions survey conducted each year. In February 2025, the latest survey was published, in which 528 parents of children with special needs participated. The conclusion is that many families experience a pressured system, where lack of guidance, changing caseworkers, and long processing times create stress and insecurity. As many as 54% of parents indicate that they are 'either dissatisfied or very dissatisfied with the cooperation with the municipality.'

Here, the opportunity for online advice is an invaluable help, as evidenced by the feedback the association receives from parents. Many call it a lifeline and 'virtually the only opportunity for impartial advice about one's actual rights. So important when we as parents and project managers for our challenged children also have to be mini-caseworkers because the municipality does not fulfill the task.'
