– It is always a very special feeling to be told that we have received funds. We are not on the finance bill, and therefore a donation like this is of great importance to our work, and I am very happy and grateful, says the director of the ADHD Association, Camilla Louise Lydiksen.

The ADHD Association, which was established in 1982 at the initiative of a parent, works to improve conditions for people with ADHD and their relatives. The need for help and advice is significant – the number of inquiries to the association attests to this. Just this year, the association has seen a 300 percent increase in inquiries. Therefore, Camilla Louise Lydiksen is pleased that the donation now makes it possible to initiate a program aimed at 8-14-year-olds and their parents.

– This is a group that does not have many offers, but where we can see an obvious need. This group of children is approaching or has reached puberty, and with that comes more conflicts that they must tackle alongside the ADHD issues. It can be quite heavy for both children and parents, and we want to provide both children and parents with the necessary tools so they feel empowered and can handle the challenges they often face, says Camilla Louise Lydiksen.

The program, which consists of ten lessons, will focus on the reaction patterns associated with ADHD and provide parents with the necessary tools to ensure that the number of conflicts decreases.

– Furthermore, the program will focus on how important it is to have structure in everyday life. We will also equip parents so they can assist their children with their schooling. Unfortunately, studies show that about 52 percent of students with ADHD leave primary school without the passing grade necessary to continue on to many youth education programs. This is quite unreasonable, as they are not less gifted than others – they just need some basic study techniques, and this parent training will also include that, says Camilla Louise Lydiksen.

The parent training programs will start at the beginning of the new year, and the plan is to hold two programs:

– Our goal is to create a much better family situation, a better everyday life, and give children greater opportunities to complete an education, says Camilla Louise Lydiksen.

Sol og Strand Holiday Home Rental transitioned to foundation ownership in 2019. According to plan, "Fonden Sol og Strand by Margit and Kjeld," which is currently under construction, was not supposed to start distributing funds for charitable purposes until 2022. However, the fund's board has decided to distribute one million already this year.

– This is the first time we are distributing from the fund, and the board has selected a total of ten organizations, each receiving 100,000 kroner. This time, the selection has been made based on the wishes of the fund's founders, Margit and Kjeld Andersen. In the future, distributions will be based on applications that we receive, says the chairman of the fund's board, Jens Stadum.

The couple Margit and Kjeld Andersen are pleased that they now have the opportunity to realize a dream they have had for many years for Sol og Strand Holiday Home Rental A/S, which they founded in 1979. The couple started by renting out their own summer house, and the company now manages the rental of around 6,500 Danish holiday homes, making it one of the largest Danish rental agencies.

In November 2019, they transferred ownership of Sol og Strand Holiday Home Rental A/S to the commercial foundation, which aims to support charitable and local causes. From 2022/23, the expectation is that the foundation will be able to distribute up to 75 percent of the profits from Sol og Strand Holiday Home Rental to these purposes annually. Thus, by choosing to rent out your summer house or book a holiday stay through Sol og Strand Holiday Home Rental, you are indirectly helping to make a difference for others.

The company calls this "Holidays with a Good Heart," and it is entirely in line with Margit and Kjeld Andersen's wishes and hopes for the business.

– By establishing this fund, we ensure that our life's work of renting out Danish holiday homes continues in Danish hands and is not sold to, for example, a foreign capital fund, and we are happy that it is possible to distribute funds ahead of schedule. We are pleased that the fund can support the ADHD Association and hope that this financial assistance can help create a better everyday life for older children suffering from ADHD, say Margit and Kjeld Andersen.
