The Sol og Strand foundation supports a Christmas party for struggling families
For the second year in a row, 'Raise for Kids' is hosting Christmas Eve in Aalborg for families with financial difficulties. This year, 34 families are expected to participate in the event, which takes place at Tech College in Aalborg.
For many, Christmas means joy and coziness, but for some families, the holiday is overshadowed by worries about finances and the inability to create a Christmas celebration like most know it.
Thanks to the association 'Raise for Kids', it is possible to invite to a Christmas Eve on December 22 with everything that comes with it.
The 'Fonden Sol og Strand by Margit og Kjeld' has just donated 25,000 kroner to the event, which includes Christmas food, a Christmas tree, bingo games, Santa Claus, candy bags, and a bag of gifts that the families can take home to unwrap on December 24.
– This donation helps us create a cozy Christmas Eve again this year, says Malene Højbjerre, who is the vice-chairman of the association, which was founded two years ago by Sonja Christensen, who, along with her husband, Eigild Christensen, makes a great effort to help those who have less.
Last year, the Christmas party took place at Sofiendalsskolen, but this year the event has moved to Tech College, where the school's students will contribute to ensuring everyone has a good Christmas Eve.
– The school trains chefs, waiters, and receptionists, and the students have agreed to prepare the food and handle the serving, says Malene Højbjerre.
In addition to the upcoming Christmas party, the association is responsible for a number of activities throughout the year. Trips are arranged to places like Aalborg Zoo, Fårup Sommerland, and financial evenings are held where people can receive advice.
– In the association, we have volunteers with legal and financial backgrounds who can assist families in gaining a better overview of their finances or help them get the necessary assistance from the municipality. Our goal is to help families become self-sufficient, says Malene Højbjerre, who prioritizes finding time for volunteer work in the association.
– All volunteers want to make a difference, and it means a lot to us to experience the joy and the smiles in the eyes of the families we help, she says.
The couple Margit and Kjeld Andersen founded Sol og Strand Feriehusudlejning A/S in 1979. In connection with the company's 40th anniversary, the couple transferred ownership to a foundation with the desire to both preserve and develop the business in Danish hands and to support charitable and local causes.
– It is a great joy for us to see that our dream of establishing 'Fonden Sol og Strand by Margit og Kjeld' has become a reality, and that we can support this Christmas party, which is of great importance to the participants, says Kjeld Andersen.
– We have received more than 100 applications, indicating a great need for assistance. Therefore, it is gratifying that we have been able to distribute nearly 2.2 million kroner to associations and organizations, says Margit Andersen.
In total, the foundation has donated nearly three million kroner this year, and the expectation is that this amount will increase in the future.
– The foundation is a guiding star for the employees at Sol og Strand Feriehusudlejning A/S, and we want to make a difference in relation to our surroundings by supporting local and charitable causes. The better we do it at Sol og Strand, the more significance it has for the foundation and its work, says Per Dam, who is the managing director of Sol og Strand Feriehusudlejning A/S.
