And the news that Fonden Sol og Strand, through Margit and Kjeld, has supported the project with 10,000 kroner brings great joy to the association.
– We are very grateful – with this donation, we have the opportunity to buy sweets and treats for the many gift packages we need to prepare, says Susanne Holgaard, who is the mother of 45-year-old Tina Kvist, the initiator of the association.
Her daughter, who has several diagnoses and mental challenges, has been ill since she was around 18 years old – and has been hospitalized in the psychiatric department several times – and is currently.
One of the times she was hospitalized was on Christmas Eve, which led Tina Kvist to think that something could be done to create Christmas joy in a sad time.
– My husband and I decided to help Tina realize the project because it is a good initiative that brings joy to many, says Susanne Holgaard.
In 2017, the first calendars were produced, and in 2022, the association PakkekalenderAUH was established. The association has teamed up with 110 knitting enthusiasts, including one man, who voluntarily knit socks, hats, scarves, etc., and the packages also contain Christmas treats, games, writing supplies, hygiene products – among other things, there is always a toothbrush and toothpaste in the bag.
– Many are admitted without having packed for a stay, and therefore personal care products are in high demand, says Susanne Holgaard.
A total of 240 calendar gifts need to be made for ten calendars, which will be distributed to ten psychiatric departments. During the department's morning or evening meeting, a draw will be held among those present at the meetings.
Ahead lie some busy months before the gift calendars are handed over to the psychiatric departments in November. While Susanne and her husband wrap gifts, their daughter ensures that there are no items among the gifts that could harm the patients.
– I can see how she gains renewed energy, even when she is feeling down. Many appreciate her efforts, and it means a lot to her. By helping others, she helps herself, says Susanne Holgaard.
