As they walk along the green fairways of Blommenslyst Golf Club, each carrying their own golf bag, they look like any other golfers. But many of them suffer from Parkinson's disease, which causes stiffness, tremors, and problems with walking and balance, among other things.

Thanks to donations from, among others, the Margit and Sol og Strand Foundation, they now have the opportunity to join a newly formed golf team for people with Parkinson's and their relatives.

The initiative was launched by 67-year-old Henning Brandt, who is an avid golfer. Last year, he was diagnosed with the disease, but instead of giving up golf, he approached the golf club's board to inquire about the possibility of creating a program for people with Parkinson's at Blommenslyst Golf Club.

"Besides me, there is one other person with Parkinson's in the club, and fortunately, there was support for the idea," says Henning Brandt.

Earlier this year, an open house event was held with 24 participants, who had the opportunity to receive instruction and try their hand at golf.

Afterwards, participants could sign up for a four-week course and then take out a trial membership. Many chose to do so, which pleases Henning Brandt, as it can help improve the quality of life for the individual.

"When you have Parkinson's, the most important medicine is exercise and movement—we know that it is good to practice large movements that involve rotation of the body, and we achieve this, for example, in connection with golf swings," says Henning Brandt.

The money from Sol og Strand is helping to ensure that the newly established golf team can continue and that participants can receive instruction. In addition, the plan is to hold small tournaments and, not least, to ensure that the social aspect is present.

"We know how important it is for both relatives and those affected by Parkinson's to have the opportunity to talk to others in the same situation," says Henning Brandt, who is delighted that he took the initiative to set up the golf team.

"I'm glad it worked out, and I've received a lot of positive feedback from the players," says Henning Brandt.
