Money from Sol og Strand makes it possible to give disabled children a Christmas experience
Not all children have the opportunity to take part in the Christmas celebrations that are usually held at schools in December. Anita Brusen from Holstebro knows this all too well, and she has decided to change that.

Therefore, on behalf of Nordstjernens Støtteforening, she submitted an application to the Sol og Strand Foundation Sol og Strand Margit and Kjeld for financial support to hold Christmas events for disabled children in Holstebro Municipality. The application was approved with a donation of DKK 20,000, which will make it possible to realize the project.
"We are incredibly happy about this. With this donation, we can give 248 disabled children a wonderful Christmas experience in December," says Anita Brusen.
She is vice-chair of the Nordstjernen Support Association, but more importantly, she is the grandmother of ten-year-old Sarah, who is disabled. And it is precisely her granddaughter who is the overwhelming motivation for her involvement in voluntary work in the support association.
"I retired a year and a half ago, and I had no doubt that I wanted to spend my retirement ensuring good experiences and conditions for children with disabilities," says Anita Brusen.
The children who will enjoy the Christmas surprise attend four different educational programs under Specialkompetence Holstebro (Storåskolen, Ellebæk, Nørreland, and Vingehøj).
Holstebro Municipality organizes many activities for children, which bring them great joy. However, we find that only a few of these activities are accessible to children with disabilities, often due to their physical, mental, and social abilities, says Anita Brusen.
This gave rise to the desire to organize a unique event in collaboration with the staff at the four educational institutions. The dates have not yet been finalized, but it is certain that Christmas activities will be organized for the disabled schoolchildren to participate in.
Santa Claus, who has experience with disabled children, will tell stories from his home in Greenland, talk to the children, and give them a small gift from his sack. We believe and hope that it will be a good day for all the children who cannot participate in the traditional Christmas events, says Anita Brusen.
