Money from Sol og Strand to ensure experiences for vulnerable women
Thanks to a donation of DKK 15,000 from the Sol og Strand Foundation Sol og Strand Margit and Kjeld, Reden Aarhus has been able to organize activities for its users.
"This donation means a lot to us. Now we can give women an experience they wouldn't otherwise have had, and it also gives our staff the chance to build closer relationships with each individual," says Anders Sørensen, director of Reden Aarhus.
The money will be used, among other things, to establish a creative open workshop, café tours, and excursions—experience shows that a trip to Tivoli, a visit to a museum, creative pursuits, etc. help the women to "dare" to open up and talk about their challenges.
– From a purely social perspective, it is beneficial to remove women from the institutional setting. We establish a relationship with the women, and we find that it becomes easier for them to talk about the trauma they have experienced. This enables us to help the women understand their situation and their reactions, says Anders Sørensen.
Every year, around 300 women over the age of 18 use the anonymous shelter and counseling center. These are vulnerable women with problems such as abuse, lack of social network, prostitution, physical illness, homelessness, mental illness, etc.
"At Reden, we try to help women empower themselves and take control of their own lives. We are strongly committed to helping our users make the most of their resources, and we see it as our primary task to enable women to improve their situation and quality of life," says Anders Sørensen.
In addition to being greeted by social workers when they arrive at Reden Aarhus, women can also obtain syringes and condoms to prevent sexually transmitted diseases, infections, and pregnancies.
Reden Aarhus is part of KFUK’s Social Work.
