Race for Oceans and Sol og Strand invite schools, residential facilities, and other organizations to participate in a free educational program about the ocean.
Even though summer has long since passed and autumn is upon us, there are still plenty of opportunities to be active along the North Jutland coast—while learning more about the vital role the sea plays for the planet.

With financial support from Sol og Strand and Kjeld Sol og Strand Fund, Race for Oceans is holding a series of workshops in November called "The Sea for All." Schools, organizations, private and public housing providers have the opportunity to participate free of charge in a learning program based on UN Global Goal 14: Life Below Water, which focuses on preserving and protecting life below the sea's surface – a healthy ocean increases our chances of maintaining a balanced and sustainable future – both for people and the environment.
- It is crucial that we all understand how important the condition of the ocean is for our future. The ocean produces more than half of the oxygen we breathe, and if we don't take care of it, the consequences could be catastrophic, explains Signe Simonsen from Race for Oceans.
The workshop is structured as a two-hour learning module that takes place on the beach, where participants collect marine plastic and other waste.
- Here, we will talk about the things we find on the beach and how they are a result of our increasing consumption, as well as how circular thinking can meet this challenge. We will also take a closer look at seaweed and the organisms that are on the beach and in the sea at this time of year. Participants will gain insight into the biodiversity of the sea and understand why it is important to protect the marine environment, says Signe Simonsen, who will also talk about the technological solutions needed to tackle the challenges posed by plastic.
The workshops will be held along the stretch between Lønstrup and Blokhus from November 4 to 15. Signe Simonsen hopes that many people will take advantage of this unique opportunity to combine community, learning, and a trip to the seaside.
- It is necessary to register so that we can tailor the learning program to the participants' needs. We naturally take special circumstances into account—for example, if it is a residential facility for people with mental health diagnoses who are unable to participate in large groups. For us, it is important to show that 'The Sea is for Everyone' – even if you have mental or physical challenges, she says.
