Race for Oceans and the Sol og Strand Foundation invite schools, residential facilities, and other organizations to a free learning program about the ocean
Even though summer has long since released its grip and autumn is upon us, there are still plenty of opportunities to be active along the northern Jutland coasts - while also learning more about the ocean's vital role for the planet.

With financial support from 'Fonden Sol og Strand by Margit og Kjeld', Race for Oceans will hold a series of workshops in November called 'The Ocean for Everyone'. Here, schools, organizations, and private and public residential facilities have the opportunity to participate for free in a learning program based on the UN's Sustainable Development Goal 14: Life Below Water, which focuses on preserving and protecting life beneath the ocean's surface - a healthy ocean increases our chances of maintaining a balanced and sustainable future - for both people and the environment.
- It is crucial that we all understand how important the state of the ocean is for our future. The ocean produces more than half of the oxygen we breathe, and if we do not take care of it, the consequences could be catastrophic, explains Signe Simonsen from Race for Oceans.
The workshop is structured as a two-hour learning module that takes place on the beach, where participants collect ocean plastic and other waste.
- Here, we will talk about the things we find on the beach and how it is a result of our increasing consumption, as well as how, for example, a circular mindset can address the challenge. We will also take a closer look at seaweed and the organisms that are on the beach and in the ocean at this time of year. Participants will gain insight into the ocean's biodiversity and understand why it is important to protect the marine environment, says Signe Simonsen, who will also discuss the technological solutions necessary to tackle the plastic challenges.
The workshops will be held along the stretch between Lønstrup and Blokhus from November 4 to 15. Signe Simonsen hopes that many will take advantage of this unique opportunity to combine community, learning, and a trip by the sea.
- It is necessary to register so that we can tailor the learning program to the participants' needs. We will, of course, take special circumstances into account - for example, if it involves a residential facility for individuals with mental diagnoses who cannot participate in large groups. For us, it is important to show that 'The Ocean is for Everyone' - even if one has mental or physical challenges, she says.
