Sol og Strand - founders publish memoirs
The founders of Sol og Strand, the couple Margit and Kjeld Andersen, will publish their memoirs in the autumn of 2021. It is the story of a young couple who financed their honeymoon to Lapland in Finland in 1975 by renting out their summer house in Lyngså – and the development that led to Sol og Strand Holiday Home Rentals with an annual turnover of more than 600 million kroner. And to the establishment of the foundation that today owns Sol og Strand Holiday Home Rentals - and distributes large portions of the profits to charitable and local causes along Denmark's coasts, where Sol og Strand rents out 6,500 private summer houses. The industry association believes that Sol og Strand has "made a unique mark on Danish holiday home tourism."
In their memoirs, the couple describes not only how they created Sol og Strand based on a summer house plot in Lyngså in North Jutland – but also the tremendous growth that has brought Sol og Strand to an annual turnover of 600 million kroner.
Margit and Kjeld Andersen also explain why and how they decided to establish Fonden Sol og Strand by Margit and Kjeld, which ensures that a significant part of the profits from holiday home rentals both allows for the continued development of Sol og Strand Feriehusudlejning A/S and, in particular, also provides support for charitable organizations' work.
Furthermore, it is noted in the couple's memoirs that Margit and Kjeld Andersen have so far visited no less than 106 countries around the globe – and thus have greatly experienced the world.
FOUNDERS: GRATEFUL FOR OPPORTUNITIES – AND THE FOUNDATION'S DISTRIBUTIONS
– We are grateful for the life we have had the opportunity to create. We have seen and experienced the world while also having the chance to build a business, where ownership is now transferred to a foundation that supports charitable causes. In this way, Sol og Strand, which we have always referred to as our "third child," can continue to live on and make a difference for others. We are therefore happy that the foundation can again distribute to good causes and look forward to the future development of both Sol og Strand and the foundation that carries our life's work and dreams forward, the couple says in connection with the release of their memoirs.
HUMANITARIAN CAUSES – IN THE SPIRIT OF MARGIT AND KJELD ANDERSEN
The Fonden Sol og Strand by Margit and Kjeld has stated since its establishment in 2019 that the foundation wishes to support local and humanitarian causes.
And that is completely in their spirit.
The first distribution from the foundation took place in December 2020 – and here, 10 humanitarian associations were selected with a special focus on the dreams of the founders – Margit and Kjeld Andersen – when they transferred ownership of Sol og Strand Feriehusudlejning A/S to the foundation in 2019. The ten selected associations each received 100,000 kr. in December 2020.
INDUSTRY ASSOCIATION: SOL OG STRAND HAS LEFT A UNIQUE MARK ON DANISH HOLIDAY TOURISM
Director of the Holiday Home Rental Association, Carlos Villaro Lassen, states on the occasion of the release of Margit and Kjeld Andersen's memoirs:
– Sol og Strand has had an invaluable impact on the development of holiday home rentals in Denmark, which has grown to become one of Europe's major tourist industries with over 20 million overnight stays annually.
– Renting out summer houses has evolved from being a niche 40 years ago to becoming a vital part of the economy and jobs in many municipalities in Denmark, and not least, Sol og Strand has left its mark on this development. It is remarkable that Denmark today has a foundation-owned rental agency of the highest caliber. Margit and Kjeld Andersen have made a unique impact on Danish holiday tourism through the highest standards and service and have contributed to creating an industry with an annual turnover of over 20 billion kroner driven by private Danes renting out their summer houses.
– The entire industry recognizes the tremendous effort that Margit and Kjeld Andersen have made and the results they have achieved. Not least during the corona crisis, Sol og Strand has managed to keep things running, adapt to Danish stays, help border-closed Germans, assist in reopening borders, and ensure homeowners clear communication and retention of their values. It is a unique effort, and it will be exciting to read Margit and Kjeld Andersen's memoirs.
