The foundation supports the harbor festival, which aims to promote the city
The joy was great when Annette Mortensen from Asaa Boldklub recently received the news that the club can look forward to a donation of 15,000 kroner from Fonden Sol og Strand by Margit and Kjeld.
The money will be used for children's entertainment in connection with the annual harbor festival, which this year takes place on Saturday, July 27.
– We are super happy – with this donation we can establish entertainment for the children and, not least, avoid user fees, which is very important to me. Regardless of financial ability, everyone should have the opportunity to have a fun and good day, says Annette Mortensen, who was swept into the board of the club when her father, Jørgen Mortensen, passed away over 5 years ago.
– I inherited the task, so to speak – my father was one of the coordinators for the festival, and I showed up for the first meeting after his death to hand over a binder with papers, but there was glue on the chair, and I ended up sitting down, she notes and sounds absolutely fine with that job.
The festival has grown significantly in scope and activities since it was established 11 years ago. It started as a flea market with a funfair, music, and a beer tent at Asaa Racetrack – then the concept was changed and the event was moved to Asaa Harbor. This revived an old tradition, as local fishing associations previously held a harbor festival in the maritime setting.
– We have a beautiful and unique harbor, and we want to profile it to the outside world and show how much Asaa has to offer, says Annette Mortensen.
A packed program is planned with music in several places at the harbor, food stalls, crafts, children's entertainment, water activities, etc. Additionally, there is a booth where interested parties can learn more about Asaa's delights.
– We want to create a celebration for the local community and tourists while showcasing our city to potential newcomers, says Annette Mortensen.
More than 80 volunteers are involved in the festival on the day itself, and the event helps strengthen the community spirit in the city.
– There is a very special atmosphere in the city on this day. You are only met with good energy and a sense of community. That is something I personally appreciate, she says.
