Therefore, on behalf of Nordstjernens Støtteforening, she sent an application to Fonden Sol og Strand through Margit og Kjeld for financial support to hold Christmas events for disabled children in Holstebro Municipality. The application has been met with a donation of 20,000 kroner, which makes it possible to realize the project.

– We are incredibly grateful for this. With this donation, we can give 248 disabled children a wonderful Christmas experience in December, says Anita Brusen.

She is the vice-chair of Nordstjernens Støtteforening but more importantly – she is the grandmother of ten-year-old Sarah, who is disabled. And it is precisely her granddaughter that is the overriding motivation for participating in the volunteer work of the support association.

– I retired a year and a half ago, and I have had no doubt that I wanted to spend my retirement ensuring good experiences and conditions for disabled children, says Anita Brusen.

The children who will benefit from the Christmas surprise attend four different educational offerings under Specialkompetence Holstebro (Storåskolen, Ellebæk, Nørreland, and Vingehøj).

– Holstebro Municipality organizes many activities for children that bring great joy. But we find that only a few of these activities are accessible to children with disabilities, often due to their physical, mental, and social capabilities, says Anita Brusen.

This is why the desire arose to create a unique event in collaboration with the staff at the four educational offerings. The dates are not yet set, but what is certain is that plans are underway for Christmas festivities that the disabled school-going children can participate in.

– The Santa Claus, who has experience with disabled children, will tell stories from his home in Greenland, talk with the children, and give them a small gift from his sack. We believe and hope that it will be a good day for all the children who cannot participate in the traditional Christmas events, says Anita Brusen.
