Money from the Sol og Strand fund warms in the village community
Thanks to a donation of 7,500 kroner from “Fonden Sol og Strand by Margit og Kjeld, it is now possible to take a step further in the plans to realize the 'Mejls-Orten-Tinghøj Fricykler'.
– It's so wonderful, says a happy Louise Engelbreth, who is the mother of a toddler and one of the driving forces behind the application supported by associations, schools, daycare providers, and institutions.
Even though the three towns are relatively small, there is plenty of enthusiasm and initiative in the West Jutland village community, which includes the towns of Mejls, Orten, and Tinghøj.
– We want the towns to be attractive for families with young children, as it is of great importance that there are enough children to sustain our school, kindergarten, daycare, sports teams, etc., she says.
One of the initiatives aimed at creating community and togetherness is two electric cargo bikes with space for six children each.
The bikes give staff in institutions, daycare, and schools the opportunity to take the children on trips – without having to rely on bus transport.
– The children will have the opportunity to get around and visit each other, they can visit the area's farms and see a cow being milked, or they can visit Varde or a playground in a nearby town, says Louise Engelbreth.
The plan is for the two new electric cargo bikes to be stored at the school's address, and that everyone will have the opportunity to use them.
– If, for example, a family wants to go on an outing, it is possible to use the electric cargo bike for this. We hope that the bikes will be used as much as possible. We believe that it creates positive energy and publicity for our towns. It shortens distances in an area where everything can seem far away, says Louise Engelbreth.
In addition to support from the Sol og Strand fund, the project, which besides the two bikes also includes rain covers, cushions, helmets, etc., has just received confirmation of support from Sydbank. The entire project amounts to nearly 81,000 kroner, and more than half of this amount is already secured.
– I hope that other funds can see the sense in contributing to this project, which supports the community in the three towns and also contributes to our desire to develop more sharing economy in our area, says Louise Engelbreth.
