Money from the Sol og Strand fund will ensure experiences for vulnerable women
Thanks to a donation of 15,000 kroner from Fonden Sol og Strand by Margit og Kjeld, Reden Aarhus has been able to create activities for the users of the place.
– This is a donation that means a lot to us. Now we can give the women an experience they otherwise wouldn’t have had, and it also gives us employees the opportunity to build a closer relationship with each individual, says director Anders Sørensen, Reden Aarhus.
The money will be used, among other things, to establish a creative open workshop, café trips, and excursions – experiences show that a trip to Tivoli, a visit to a museum, creative activities, etc. help the women to 'dare' to open up and talk about their challenges.
– From a social work perspective, it is good to take the women out of the institutional framework. We create a relationship with the women, and we find that it becomes easier for them to talk about the traumas they carry. In this way, we have the opportunity to help the women understand their situation and their reactions, says Anders Sørensen.
Every year, around 300 women over the age of 18 use the anonymous shelter and counseling service. These are vulnerable women with issues such as addiction, lack of social network, prostitution, physical illness, homelessness, mental illness, etc.
– At Reden, we try to help the women to manage and master their own lives. We have a strong desire to help the users utilize their resources, and we see it as our primary task to empower the women to improve their situation and quality of life, says Anders Sørensen.
In addition to being met by social work professionals when they come to Reden Aarhus, they can also receive needles and condoms to prevent sexually transmitted diseases, infections, and pregnancies.
Reden Aarhus is part of KFUK’s Social Work.
