Money from the Sol og Strand fund will help women who have been subjected to violence
Around 700 women affected by violence have received help through 'Project Q-Værk', which was established in 2017. However, there is still a great need to provide support to women affected by violence and their children, and a donation of 50,000 kroner from 'Fonden Sol og Strand by Margit og Kjeld' can contribute to this.
Project Q-Værk, which is an alternative and a supplement to traditional crisis centers, creates networks for women who have been subjected to violence. The goal is to establish new and strong communities where women can receive advice and support, thus helping them move on after a violent relationship.
– It is absolutely crucial that these women feel they are part of a community where they are met with an understanding of the situation they are in. At the same time, we ensure that they receive the right help so they can find their way to a life without violence, says Laura Nørløv Dyby, who established Project Q-Værk together with Lisanne Henriksen seven years ago.
The two women have both previously worked at one of the country's crisis centers and have themselves been in situations where they have had to turn away women due to lack of space.
– In Denmark, it is estimated that around 118,000 women are subjected to violence annually (State Institute for Public Health, 2021), but only about 2,600 of these women stay at a crisis center (Social Policy Report, 2022), informs Laura Nørløv Nyby.
Similar to crisis centers, Project Q-Værk is experiencing an increased need for help, and currently, there is a waiting list of about six months. Therefore, a donation like the one from 'Fonden Sol og Strand by Margit og Kjeld' is extremely welcome.
– Our wish is to be able to develop and expand our network for women affected by violence even more in the coming years, as the demand is far greater than we can currently meet, says Laura Nørløv Nyby.
– We accept women who are not at high risk and where their safety is assessed not to be in danger. Therefore, we work closely with municipalities and crisis centers, and if it concerns women who have been subjected to, for example, abuse, stalking, or honor-related violence, we refer them to crisis centers or specialized services in the area, says Laura Nørløv Nyby.
The couple Margit and Kjeld Andersen established Sol og Strand Holiday Home Rental A/S in 1979. The couple has now transferred ownership to a foundation with the desire to both preserve and develop the business in Danish hands and to support charitable and local causes.
– We are glad that we can contribute to supporting the important efforts that Project Q-Værk is undertaking. Violence in families is devastating and can leave deep scars on children and adults, and it is crucial that these women receive support to regain their footing and move on to a life without violence, say Margit and Kjeld Andersen.
