Thanks to a donation of 100,000 kroner from 'Fonden Sol og Strand by Margit og Kjeld', the ADHD Association has been able to establish a teaching program for parents of children with ADHD.

The course, titled 'A Better Everyday Life with ADHD – online counseling, support groups, and community for parents of children with ADHD', consists of ten teaching sessions and was literally snatched up, says the director of the ADHD Association, Camilla Louise Lydiksen.

– The courses were filled up just a short moment after we offered them, and we therefore created a waiting list, but it had reached 173 parents within 24 hours, so we chose to close the waiting list. We have received more than 600 responses to our outreach about this course, and that is a response we have never experienced before, says the ADHD director.

The newly established training program, which takes place digitally, targets 8-14-year-olds and their parents. Camilla Louise Lydiksen had anticipated that there would be great interest in the offer, but she is still surprised that so many have shown interest.

– We knew there was a need for this offer, as there are quite limited courses available in the area. However, it still surprises us that the need is so great, but we attribute that to the corona lockdown, where many children are receiving home schooling while their parents are either working from home or at their jobs. This puts extra pressure on parents because they are alone with the children and their frustrations about not being able to go to school, see friends, or participate in sports events. With the course, we hope to provide children and parents with the necessary tools to handle the challenges they face and thereby minimize the number of conflicts, she says.

Initially, the donation makes it possible to run courses for around 50 participants. However, the hope is that it will be possible to offer more courses.

– We cannot possibly meet the demand, but my hope is that in the long run, it can become a course that we can always offer when we receive a parent inquiry, says Camilla Louise Lydiksen, adding that the association has started trying to raise funds for more courses.

– We will do everything we can to seek more funds to establish and hold even more courses, as the need is so great, she says.
